11/19/2009
(October 6, 2009) -- As part of its continuing effort to create better, more efficient, and customer-friendly business practices within its membership institutions, the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) created a Best Practices Award Program.
CACUBO presented its 2009 CACUBO Best Practices Award to Frankie Baker, Blackwell Consulting Services' Senior Manager who serves as Chief Information Officer of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Baker's winning submission titled "eForms: Process Re-Engineering, Paperwork Reduction and Environmentalism" showcased Cincinnati State's development of web-based electronic forms applications. Through its efforts, the College improved business processes, generated savings in staff time, supplies, and storage, and reduced envirionmental waste. Cincinnati State received a $1,000 honorarium and Baker presented his winning proposal at CACUBO's Annual Meeting in Covington, Indiana on October 6.
Second-place award and a $500 honorarium went to Arthur Neff from Wright State University of Ohio for its submission titled "Transformation of a University Printing Services Copier Fleet Program." Wright State transformed its cost-per-copy program on campus to a leased operation, at an annual savings of $200,000 and an additional cost avoidance savings of $350,000.
CACUBO awarded third place and $500 to Scott Griesbach from the University of Wisconsin-Stout for its program titled "Don't Blow the Bulb: Residence Hall Energy Competition." This program submission focused on promoting energy conversion within UW-Stout's residence halls.
Program submissions were reviewed by 26 program reviewers who judged the submissions based on the effectiveness of the best practice, its measurable benefits, its applicability to other higher education institutions, and future institutional benefits.
CACUBO wishes to thank each of the participants in its 2009 awards program. Details regarding the 2010 program will be forthcoming in December. Questions regarding CACUBO's program may be directed to bestpractices@cacubo.org.
